Sports-Technology & Analytics Offerings
For Grades 5-12

This sports-technology course is a unique and fun approach to teaching students about coding, analytics, pattern-recognition, public speaking – all through the lens of sports. This curriculum is tailor-made for educators and students with little to no experience in coding or analytics. The lessons presented are timeless and have have true real-life applicability. The course may be taught entirely both online (virtual) or offline (in-person). Students will follow along as a Drobots virtual instructor presents online video and written modules that include: a video introduction before each lesson, the lesson, downloadable instructions and student booklets.

Sports, coding and analytical processes are central to our society, culture, and economy. As the sports overall industry has grown; traditional broadcasting, modern analytics, athlete evaluation, team game-planning, and non-traditional outlets for analysis, commentary and engagement have grown exponentially.

This course aims to find agreeable content to the student, bring an analytical framework to the working canvas, and emphasize the unique creativities of each individual student through “cataloged choice”.

The content in this course takes a reflexive approach to students’ interests and knowledge. With exposure to the the most innovative sports analytics software -the same software the professional teams use– students will develop tools for organizing video content in a data and/or purpose driven narrative arc. Simultaneously, the students will bring research-based correspondence to a “Shared Topic” in Sports, planning and performing a round table discussion in both a video recorded and podcasting format.

This course offers teachers an opportunity to “press play” and immediately instruct and deliver the lesson plans to students in a camp, after school or classroom environment. Created specifically for educators who do not have the experience nor the time to fully prepare and learn how to teach the curriculum to their students, this easy-to-follow, yet comprehensive course is the most simple way to introduce sports-technology learning.

By the end of the course, sstudents will have mastered their ability to perform professional-level sports analysis through the use of cutting edge software, allowing students to achieve multiple outcomes based on their own area of focus and interest.

Professional Development Catered To Your Needs and Your Schedule

Drobots prides itself on the ability to offer valuable, scalable and affordable professional development. Our primary goal is to respect the educator’s busy schedule and conduct virtual trainings that are both comprehensive and efficient. The Drobots team continues to innovate to maintain high quality virtual training for all teachers who purchase our curriculum. We use the power of video conferencing to enable intimate professional development sessions with our curriculum design instructors. We pride ourselves on maintaining an open and flexible schedule to accommodate the educator’s busy schedules.

Flexible Scheduling Link So You May Choose The Time(s) That Work Best.

Over-communication is one of Drobots’ core values. Therefore, when we plan a professional development session(s) (PD) it is our primary goal to set the proper expectations. Prior to every virtual session, Drobots shares a teacher welcome package which includes: your curriculum instructor’s bio and experience and an extremely organized Professional Development agenda. Our goal is to ensure you understand and fully trust the “who,” “what,” and “why” of our trainings. Again, we fully respect the demanding schedule of all teachers, so our job is to ensure that we will use our time together in an efficient and productive manner. Following each PD virtual session, your curriculum instructor will send you a summary email detailing all of the content and objectives that were covered and reviewed during your session. This email will also communicate the goals and key takeaways from the session, which will include a full outline of next action steps for the next scheduled meeting.

We Believe In Face-To-Face Meetings and Trainings

Since an on location training is always the best method of delivering PD, our goal is to ensure that we simulate, to the best of our ability, a live training through the use of video conferencing. It is of the upmost importance that we make you, the teacher, feel 100% comfortable during our PD sessions. Therefore, in order to accomplish this objective, our curriculum instructors use visual and auditory aids to conduct our trainings. Developing a strong trusting relationship is important, so the ability to communicate with body language and facial expressions allow our curriculum instructors to connect with teachers with a meaningful and personal approach. We believe this enhances the learning and understanding of the materials being taught.

Engagement, Confidence Building and Over-Communication

Due to the thorough preparation and planning, Drobots Curriculum instructors are able to fully engage teachers throughout each PD session. Our goal during each session is: to over-communicate our teachings and listen to your feedback, to provide an abundance of advice and share best practices, and to build extreme confidence in the subject manner, so the teachers feel secure and knowledgeable come classroom time.

Video Record Each Professional Development Session

All Drobots-led virtual PD sessions are recorded to the cloud for two important reasons: First, it’s vital for teachers to have an internal record of each session to enhance the training and maintain quality control throughout the process. Second, providing you with a copy of the video recording becomes a wonderful and useful resource for the teacher(s) to refer back to in a continuous manner, so may always review the material and refresh the key takeaways at a moment’s notice. Drobots uses Zoom video conferences which allows us to record to the cloud.

Python is used by a large majority of web applications and companies such as Google, YouTube, and NASA. In addition to this JavaScript course, students will dive into the world of flow-based programming with Node-RED for drones. Node-RED is a powerful visual editor for developing custom software for IoT. As a result the drones can be programmed using UDP this makes Node-RED a logical choice for building advanced drone missions.

This course presents a variety of coding languages and allows students to learn inside the classroom with a safe and reliable drone specifically designed for indoor use. This is a great course to have students apply algebra and geometry to coding while also gaining an introduction on how to program with Python

All standards will vary from state-to-state. Therefore we strongly suggest you conduct your own research and research the the standards that are most applicable to your state. The Next Generation Science Standards website is a great resource.

Below is a list of the applicable Practices, Disciplinary Core Ideas and Crosscutting Concept Standard

EDUCATIONAL STANDARDS & SKILL DEVELOPMENT

At DroneBlocks we understand that each province, region or school district adhere to a variety of skills and standards that are required to guide student learning. To best administer this array of standards, we have developed a universal indicator of the standards practiced throughout the DroneBlocks lessons. Skills developed in our lessons are summarized below to provide support for all educators (whether using CCSS, NCTM, TEKS, NGSS, ISTE, or other curriculum standards).  We understand that you, the educator, are the professional in knowing which skills align with the lessons you teach.

SCIENCE

  • Understand that force acts on an object and includes strength and direction, causing the object to move.
  • Objects that appear to not be moving have multiple forces compiling to create zero force on the object.
  • The motion of an object can be observed and measured.
  • Investigate and test solutions to solve each challenge efficiently.
  • Synthesize information from a variety of sources.
  • Evaluate solutions, taking into consideration safety, reliability and impact.

  • Utilize a variety of technology and resources to better understand concepts and solve problems.
  • Develop comprehension of the logic and syntax that goes into building or coding a program through engaging in and elaborating upon activities.
  • Simulate solutions to real-world problems using models and/or computer simulation.
  • Program variables that represent quantities in mathematical problems.
  • Write conditional expressions to create program logic using if-else statements.

ENGINEERING

  • Improve and optimize results by identifying errors and using mathematics and technology to redesign and solve problems.
  • Evaluate, use prior knowledge such as scientific processes and real-world problems, and troubleshoot to develop a solution.
  • Discuss, explain, and collaborate to improve a product through iteration.
  • Design a device that converts one form of energy into another by building, testing, and refining. Determine the best solution to accomplish a given challenge.
  • Plan and carry out investigations and gain feedback through design process (design solutions).
  • Construct arguments that provide a convincing explanation of solutions created through programming.

ART

  • Make, design, and create using a variety of materials to develop a concept or learning experience.
  • Brainstorm ideas through modeling and sketching.
  • Compile works of art to relate knowledge.

MATHEMATICS

  • Measure distances, width, length and speed to gain data for interpretation and refining engineering and design.
  • Integrate data analysis to collaborate and gain feedback.
  • Solve mathematical problems with numbers in any form, strategically using applicable tools.
  • Determine the probability of events and compare data from observed models. Explore and evaluate possible reasoning for discrepancies between models.
  • Observe an object’s motion, providing data and evidence to evaluate and predict future motion.
  • Develop and expand knowledge of geometry, understanding the concepts of measuring angles, and geometric constructions.
  • Understand how variables can be used to represent quantities in a real-world or mathematical problems.
